Right As Rain

My name is Rainy. I'm a spectacular, big, friendly Percheron-cross gelding. I have a wonderful mind, and I'm not bad looking, either! I'm 6 years old this year, and I'm spending the summer in the mountains, where I'm learning to be a proper grown-up horse!

There sure was something in the air last night! Fireworks! A lot of them. I thought something weird was up, because lots of neighbors were outdoors, with music playing, and kids running around. Then after dark our humans came out into our pen, and brought two of their human friends. Now that just never happens!

So the donkeys and I were just checking out their hands and shoes, and seeing who was the best at petting. Both of the guys had silver 3-legged things with black eyes at the top, and they were very defensive about them when we tried to knock them over for fun. The guy-friend stayed inside our water-protection corral the whole time so we couldn’t mess with him.

So we’re just standing around enjoying this weird, nice warm evening, when *crack*boom* this ruckus started! I ran around a little, and snorted hard at it, to let it know I’m big, and not to mess with me. But the donkeys didn’t seem upset. They are little, but the know what’s what, so I calmed down. I had seen a few of these fireworks last year - my humans said something about “homecoming” - but this was lots of them, and they were big! See for yourself!

They were startling at first, but pretty, so we all just watched and got petted. I got bored near the end and went back to eating my dinner. No sense wasting good hay.
